2012 Asha for Education Canada (AfEC) raising money for Education and Relieve in India

This year the Ottawa Tea Festival will be donating funds to the AfEC organisation that focuses on:

-providing or improving educational programs and facilities for needy children and adults in India

-providing housing, food, clothing and other basic amenities to needy children and adults in India.

AfEC is a secular, apolitical, non-profit, charitable organisation dedicated to socio-economic change by supporting education of under-priveleged children in India. AfEC is run entirely by volunteers so that 100% of donations and funds raised go towards the education and development projects they support in India. AfEC has active volunteers in most major cities of Canada, including Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Kingston. AfEC is the Canadian chapter of the parent organisation, Asha for Education, founded in California, USA in 1991, now spanning more than 60 chapters worldwide.

2011 Funds were raised for the Ashinaga Project

Since there have been a lot of orphans due to the Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan, we have chosen to raise funds for these children in need of support. Ashinaga, named for the 1912 American novel Daddy-Long-Legs, is a nonprofit organization based in Tokyo, Japan, which for over 40 years has been providing education-focused financial and emotional support to children who have a parent/guardian with a serious disability, or who have lost one or both parents/guardians due to illness, accident, disaster, or suicide.
